NUM: Who Are We? (continued) <<
NUM is a club with the purpose of providing leadership and direction to better promote the development and spirit of Ultimate Frisbee in the Nashville community and supporting its local teams. We are governed by Board NUM, a group of 7 branches including a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Marketing, PR, Ambassadors, and Fields Coordinators.
Each April, NUM men’s and women’s club teams host an Ultimate tournament known as Monkey Bowl, a 2-day event which gathers 20-30 teams (250-450 total people) from all over the southeast and midwest. 2008 will be our
20th year. Each year, most of the overage from the tournament is donated to a local charity. Donation amounts have varied between $500-$2200 and past recipients have included Oasis Center, Renewal House, American Heart Association, Harding YMCA, YMCA We Build People Campaign, and Nashville Youth Soccer Association.
NUM also sponsors an annual Ultimate Frisbee Summer League starting in mid-May This event usually attracts approximately 200-250 men and women from the Nashville area. Our summer league is organized with the intent of attracting new players and teaching them the game, so about 1/4 of the players have never played before.
In addition, NUM also organizes 1-2 Ultimate Frisbee Clinics each year, also with the goal of teaching new players the game. These clinics are usually co-sponsored by Team Green, the Lightning 100 outdoor club. |
